Into a Feast of Cool Melodies on a Midsummer Day
 

The 1st Seoul Creative Arts Education Center, organized by the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Cho Hee Yeon) and commissioned by Kookmin University (President Jeong Seung Ryul), announced that it successfully held the '2024 Seoul Student Philharmonic Orchestra Summer Concert' with 64 members of the Seoul Student Philharmonic Orchestra from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on the 6th and 7th of this month at the Civic Center (B1) in the Seoul Metropolitan Office.

The 2024 Summer Concert was composed of songs that the members of the Seoul Student Philharmonic Orchestra could enjoy with the message of learning and growing in the value of coexistence through music, and they performed a total of four songs, including M.Glinka's Ruslan and Lyudmila Overture from the opera Ruslan and Lyudmila. In particular, the orchestra performed on the stage of the 'Bengak Lounge' in the Seoul City Hall, which is not a regular concert hall, to provide citizens with the opportunity to enjoy the arts in their daily lives and to communicate freely.

To prepare for the performance, the orchestra held the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra 2024 Summer Music Camp at Kookmin University Concert Hall and Arts Center on the 2nd and 3rd of this month. Starting with open rehearsals with parents, 'master classes' with music masters of each part and current university faculty members, and an in-depth 'summer music camp' program for the summer concert, the orchestra had a time to improve individual competencies and learn consideration and cooperation through music. In addition, this year, the orchestra held a voluntary training for teachers in charge of student orchestras and interested teachers in Seoul with Kim Yehoon, the principal conductor of the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, to gain ideas on how to run school arts education from professional artists.

Founded in 2016, the Seoul Student Philharmonic Orchestra selects members through auditions from elementary, middle, and high school students in Seoul. In 2024, the orchestra will become the representative student orchestra of the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education under the slogan, “Unite again, through music. The Seoul Student Philharmonic Orchestra is operated by the 1st Seoul Creative Arts Education Center (Eunpyeong) and regularly holds part practice and ensemble practice for each instrument every Saturday.

On December 19, the Seoul Arts Center will host the 9th Seoul Student Philharmonic Orchestra Concert, where the orchestra will showcase the skills they have developed over the year, and in late December, the orchestra will recruit new members for 2025.
