Kookmin University provides the largest amount of students with full autonomy in choosing their majors (Type 1) among metropolitan and national universities in Korea. To support the stable transition and successful adjustment for this unprecedentedly large group of students, Kookmin University established the College of Transdisciplinary Studies in 2025.
Students admitted through the ‘Free Major Selection System’ and enrolled in a ‘liberal major’ and ‘future convergence major’ under the College of Transdisciplinary Studies explore various fields of interest before officially selecting their major at the end of their freshman year. Even after declaring their major, students retain the flexibility to change majors without restrictions ensuring a more active, autonomous, and practical major exploration.
To provide concrete support throughout this flexible major exploration process, the College of Transdisciplinary Studies developes the ALPHA program including:
(1) Academic advisor counselling, (2) Leading mentor/mentee programs, (3) exPo & exHibition fair, and (4) Academic class of major exploration seminars, supported by a counseling center and K-smart mentor system.
Through these outstanding, uniquely designed programs of Kookmin University, we look forward to seeing the dreams and visions of students in the College of Transdisciplinary Studies come true in a brilliant way.
