How many times in your life have you made a donation? Seo Hoo Sun (Senior, Business Information Technology Major) said, "I've had experiences of group donation when I went to primary, middle and high school. And I sometimes donate via cell phone watching TV programs like Love Request, which helps those in need." When asked about giving donations, most people imagine something great and self-sacrificing. However, there is a new trend in the donation culture that has lately sprung up.

Han Gyu Sik (33, Office worker) visits the homepage of a credit card company every three months in order to keep his promise to contribute half of his credit card points every month. He has contributed from 2,000 won to over 10,000 won quarterly since last year to help needy children. In this manner, young people enjoy making donations, which are not a large sum of money but are increasing, and the word 'Donatainment' has been coined. It is a compound word composed of 'Donation' and 'Entertainment' and it can be roughly explained by enjoy donation.

This coined word is an extended concept including the trend of making donations such as Talent Donation and Ability Sharing. Yoon Bo Ae (Good Neighbors, Public Relations) praised about the youths of these days when she said, "There are a number of really cool young people recently. There is an increasing number of youths who know how good it is to live with others and satisfy their desires by purchasing fair trade goods, donating their talent and so on. I suppose that we are quickly catching up with developed countries." Indeed, according to Good Neighbors's statistics, the donation rate of 2030 generations is 65.2%, which is a majority of regular supporting members of this institute.
Then, how has the hilarious and fun trend of donation been created? Yoon Bo Ae believes that as access to the electronic donation service is available throughout the Internet, thesedays more and more people are willing and able to make donations. Also, she pointed out that exemplary donations of some famous entertainers such as Kim Hye Soo, Choi Soo Jong and Byun Jeong Soo draw public attentions and in turn lead to forming culture of donation in Korea.

Many of you may have heard their stories through the Internet news. Girl group Girls' Generation, who is gaining great popularity, was given a Sharing Certification issued by Good Neighbors from their fans on August 5th, while celebrating their second debut anniversary. Yoon also mentioned that World Citizen Education, which means we should pay attention to the poverty of the third world, has been conducted for children since 1993. The children who have received at this education are now in their 20s and 30s, and have grown to giving donations as a natural part of life.

However, there are many young people who are still unfamiliar with this kind of giving. Choi Sun Hee (Senior, School of Business Administration) said, "When I see celebrities doing good deeds, I want to join them, but that feeling passes quickly. Unless we do more than think about making a donation, it's hard to do good things for others by ourselves. I think a more active publicity and a culture related to making contributions should be created so we can be more accustomed to it."

Yet, if we have an interest and look around, there are many ways to make a donation and serve. It's easier than you might think. Have you ever felt ashamed of being overweight or bursting out of your clothes when you saw hungry children in Africa? If so, what do you think about Calorie Sharing? If you lose 1kg, you can donate 1,250 won, which is the price of a kilogram of rice, to starving children. Are you worrying about what special gift you can give your sweetheart in remembrance of the 100 days anniversary when you first met? Then I recommend making the Anniversary Donation. The anniversary donation is giving a Sharing Certification as a present after making a donation in the person's name. It's a nice way to congratulate someone or celebrate a special day like a birthday or a wedding.

Do you hesitate because you are a student and always lack money? Then, how about making a Free Donation that never requires you to pay any money? There are numerous ways of giving our love without spending money. One company has a Happy Bean for example. You can also buy products that have the Good Buy mark on them. Aside from this, you can share your talent with neighbors by making a Talent Donation, as long as you are willing to spare your time. If taking photos is one of your hobbies, Photographing Sharing is another idea. If you know how to draw a picture and handle graphic tools skillfully, Image Sharing is good. And if you can speak foreign languages, there is also Language Sharing.

There is a 100 won Campaign which you can donate from 100 won. In this way, it's a good idea to take part in helping others even if it's just 100 won instead of feeling strange about giving a donation. How about giving a Sharing Certificate as a gift for your love this winter? Your life will become more beautiful by sharing the love with others, which could be only for two of you.
