The world is getting shrieked as a global village. Many universities contract for cooperative business to for students to have more global opportunities. KMU is also related with 107 universities of 17 nations. KMU interviewed two exchange students out of many others to deeply focus on their different thoughts and views.

We’ve asked to Okada Moe (22) and Iwamatsu Yasko (24) followed questions.

Q1. How did you fall in interest of Korea? What were your reasons to pick KMU out of many other Korean universities?

Moe: Fortunately, I had an opportunity to learn traditional Korean folk music in my high school. I came to Korea to learn more about it when I was in second grade. And this experience drove me to take Korean language as my college major. My ex-university had three choices to come; KMU, Kyunghee and one in Masan. I picked up KMU and not regretful at all.

Yasko: I’ve picked Korean as my second language course in my school in Japan, National Saga University. When I visited Korea with classmates, I found out that it is more passionate than Japan. Also, I was impressed on kindness of Korean. KMU exchange student friend helped me to study at KMU.

Q2. Tell us about your first impression of KMU.

Moe: I was quite surprised that classmates go to bar and hangout after class. Japanese students don’t do this kind of party at all. That impression brought me to become heavy drinker in Korea. I could learn recent slangs and even more languages by hangout with classmates. I’ve missed class registration once, but Japanese major assistant kindly helped me to cover that accident.

Yasko: I was surprised that there are so many cafes and canteens in campus. And also brand new buildings are a lot. But I’d like to suggest that the international office to prefer quicker administration process for oversea students.

Q3. How do you feel with KMU students?

Moe: It is little more than a month of my life in Korea, but I’d like to say, “KMU traditional folk music club is the best ever.” Club members give me big helps to cover my language problem. And also I thank to them for showing me their warm hearts when I had hard time.

Yasko: My impression on Korean and KMU is ‘family’. Korean treats family really lovely and seriously. Japan does, too, but not as much as Korean. I try to say ‘I love you’ to my family on the phone but it is not easy to me. And my friend who I met in KMU’s global buddy program helps me a lot. I really appreciate a lot.

Q4. Tell us about your future plans and comments to your KMU friends.

Moe: I want to be a Korean teacher in Japan. By the way, I wish I make many Korean friends to learn language and culture. So please call ‘Moe’ when you see me. I will be glad for calling my name by all of you.

Yasko: It has been 6 months already in KMU. I really want to stay longer, but my parents worry a lot of me because I’m the only child of my family. I want to make good memories as much as I can in KMU. And I will tell my friends that it is awesome to study in KMU.
