Today, June 14th , is the world blood donor day. Every year, a lot of events are held in many countries to celebrate this meaningful day. Korea was selected as a memorable venue for the event. In addition, this was more meaningful because Techno design Graduate school students took part in this campaign. They showed t-shirts they designed by themselves and I heard the display has been going on in Cheonggye Plaza, Gwanghwamun since June 10. It has covered the festival scene with 100 mannequins that have delivered the blood donation message.

29 TED, Brand design lab students and professor Kim-min participated this exhibition. Students showed all 100 private designed artworks by presenting from 2 to 10 works. The background printed their art in white T-shirts, which is everybody’s favorite, is connected this display’s theme, ‘life, love, share, practice’. Artists don’t force people to accept the value of donating blood. They just express themselves through their presentation so people can admire artwork easily and have fun while at the display.

‘We are graduated students from TED. While we were working on papers about social enterprise and design study in the master’s degree course, we wanted to do volunteer work for the society. This led us to support our design for 1 year to Hanmaum blood donation center. Juniors from TED donated 100 graphic T-shirts related in blood donation and Brand design lab designed all event. It’s still not sufficient but It gave us chance to think one step more about donation through blood donation campaign. The representative Na Ung-Ju, who graduated TED 08, organized this exhibition said.

Actually, many people who walked around Cheonggye stream touched the mannequins and took pictures. ‘I saw this exhibition accidently and it gave a chance for me to let my kids know about blood donation because very curious children asked me a lot, The intention of this event is very interesting’ Lee Ju Hee, who came out for outing with her kids, said.

High school student, Lee un young, who is a member of Korea foundation the prevention blindness, came out to volunteer said that she didn’t like the blood donation promotion T-shirts because most of them are not friendly. However, she liked that the exhibit had many custom design T-shirts that people wore casually.

100 designs have their own meaning. Among them, Student Kim Hang un, who graphed match girl and showed design said that the last match is the only hope for girl. I was inspired by the candlelight shape and it looks exactly like beads of blood. I’d like to deliver this meaning about blood donation which gives people hope who really need blood.

Before doing design, I used to think blood donation was harmful for me. However, this event made me change mind during my search. Then I started participating voluntarily Lee su ju said.

As it was explained in the interview with representative Na Ung Ju, this exhibit is a talent donation activity. Professor Kim-min has been supporting registered trademark, product design and so on, to solve difficulty on lack of design which is necessary for marketing competitiveness and promotion of social enterprise. 20 types of T-shirts design were chosen from the 100 designs by students. These will be sold at the ‘Delightful’ booth, Hanmaum Blood Center located next to the exhibition venue . The price is 10,000 won each. The proceeds of the benefits and donations all will be delivered to multicultural alternative school and the school of global SARANG. The slogan of this year’s World blood donor day is that “Every blood donor is a Hero”. What I think about blood donation is that it is sharing love with practice. There is nothing can be done without practice. It takes only 40 min from school to Cheonggye plaze by 1120 and 1711 buses. Although it’s not that close distance I think It’s enough time to fly away fearful and change hero’s clothes. If you can’t participate blood donation, why don’t you buy your favorite T-shirts and inform to people around you?
