Many students skip breakfast due to their schedule or tight budgets. At Kookmin University (KMU), breakfast is served to all students from Monday to Friday, 8 to 10AM, for just 1,000 won and can accommodate 180 students daily. The breakfast meal consists of rice, soup, and side dishes, all of which are well balanced nutritiontionally.
With an increasing standard and cost of living, the program allows students to have breakfast without having to worry about the cost. It is a national program sponsored by the government, Seongbuk district, and KMU.

Due to the limited number of meals avilabile each day, the “Cheonwon (meaning 1,000 won) breakfast” often closes ahead of schedule. To investigate this issue, The Kookmin Review recorded the closing time of breakfast for an entire week, revealing that it closed earlier from Monday to Wednesday than on Thursday and Friday.

As these data were collected during the week before the midterms, therewas higher demand than usual, causing the breakfast to close even earlier. Below is a chart of the breakfast closing times throughout the week, highlighting how quickly the meals are sold out each day.
For just 1,000 won, a proper breakfast is within every student's reach, as long as they get there early enough, making it one of the most popular campus initiatives.

Date 4/13/2026 4/14/2026 4/15/2026 4/16/2026 4/17/2026
Closing Time 8:52 8:46 8:52 9:09 9:32
