Dr. Lee Young Seok from the ‘Robotic Functional Skin and Enhanced Perception Research Center (ERC)’, led by Professor Lim Si Hyung of the School of Mechanical Engineering at Kookmin University, received the ‘Outstanding Paper Award’ at the ‘2026 ICMPT International Conference’ hosted by The Korean Society of Manufacturing Process Engineers (KSMPE).

During the oral presentation session, Dr. Lee presented the achievements in developing a next-generation portable gas analysis platform based on ultra-miniature and low-power technology, titled “Integration of Advanced Materials with MEMS Fabrication Technology for a Miniaturized Portable VOC Analysis Platform.” By integrating metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), which recently won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry, with semiconductor processes, he achieved the smallest reported gas chromatography-based analysis system volume of 0.62 L to date. He also completed a platform capable of continuous operation for up to 35 hours on a single battery due to its low-power operation. This presentation demonstrated the platform's potential to evolve into next-generation ultra-miniature gas analysis technology applicable to environmental, industrial, and medical fields. This achievement is also evaluated as closely aligned with the development direction of next-generation hypersensory and environmental perception technologies for robots, a key focus of the ‘Robotic Functional Skin and Hypersensory Research Center (ERC)’.
