Jang Joo Hee, a student from the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at our university, who participated in the Seoul Metropolitan Council's 7th University Student Internship Program conducted during the 2025 summer vacation period, has been awarded the Outstanding Intern Award. This Seoul Metropolitan Council University Student Internship Program received applications from university students enrolled at 11 universities located in Seoul. Students selected one per university participated in the two-month internship program. Each student conducted research on assigned policy topics within their respective fields to develop and propose policy ideas. Jang Joo Hee, representing our university, completed her internship focusing on the topic “Management of Underground Structures and Ground Subsidence Prevention Measures in Seoul.”

Jang Joo Hee investigated the current state of underground utility management in Seoul and analyzed domestic and international cases of ground subsidence response. Based on this, she proposed an ordinance amendment centered on institutionalizing the Underground Space Integrated Map and improving the data management system. Her policy proposal received high praise for its practical feasibility and novelty, leading to her selection as one of the top three outstanding interns.

Jang Joo Hee shared her reflections: “This experience allowed me to directly witness how academic research is applied to actual policy and administration. It confirmed the significance of policy research that can contribute to urban infrastructure safety management and improving citizens' quality of life.”
