Students Do Yeon Kim, Soo Min Kim, Sung Doo, and Jae Hyun Lee from the Department of Costume Design won the grand prize (Seoul Mayor's Award) at the '2024 ZERO+ Solverthon'.

The ZERO+ Solverthon is a zero-waste fashion design competition organized by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, Seoul Design Foundation, and Seoul Recycling Plaza to overcome the climate crisis and practice resource recycling.

Participants who passed the first round of judging in July developed works using various waste materials such as production residues, banners, awnings, clothes, and ties through a mentoring program with experts including zero-waste fashion designers, and presented them at the '2024 Zero-Waste Fashion Show' on September 7 at Ttukseomhangangang Park.

The winning outfit, titled 'Brutalism Check', is a repetitive geometric three-dimensional object made by folding and connecting used paper books using the origami technique. Based on Brutalist architecture, the check pattern is a combination of the intersecting vertical horizontal lines of the building's facade and the light blue to blue colors reflected in the windows, and the rough texture obtained by sewing and tearing the paper reproduces the exposed concrete characteristic of Brutalist architecture.
