Zhongshan Huang, a Ph.D. student in the Space and Environment Lab of the Department of Spatial and Cultural Design, Graduate School of Techno Design, KU, and his advisor, Sunjung Lee, published the paper Combining Human Perception and Street Accessibility to Provide Information for Better Street Construction: A Case Study of Chengdu City, China in the SCIE Journal of Asian Architecture and Building Engineering (JAABE).

JAABE accepts submissions in six fields: Architectural History and Theory, Architectural Planning and Design, Building Structures and Materials, Construction Management, Environmental Engineering, and Urban Planning and Design, and is published by a joint agreement between the Japan Institute of Architects, the Korean Institute of Architects, and the Chinese Academy of Architecture.

The professor emphasized that mixed methods research, which combines quantitative data analysis with qualitative research methods necessary to deeply understand people's experiences, thoughts, feelings, social context, and so on, can bolster reliability and validity, said Huang Zhongshan, a former master of engineering student who was used to dealing with objective data and wondered how she could further develop her research in her doctoral program in design.

“For my doctoral dissertation, I plan to use a mixed methods approach to research, which involves collecting and analyzing data to test hypotheses, as well as qualitative research methods such as observation and surveys,” said Hwang. I am looking forward to the dissertation process.”
