First Place at the BKV-Prize 2012 held in Munich, Germany went to student Kang Mi Na (KMU Graduate School, Metalwork '10).
The German BKV (Bayerischer Kunstgewerbe-Verein e.V.) Society of Arts and Crafts, established in 1851, has 160 years of history, is comprised of 400 members, and has operated as a professional community for modern craft's development and promotion .
The community located in Munich, has been running its‘Gallery for Applied Arts’and a huge shop for various artworks. Also, it has been participating in many trade fairs.
The features of Ms. Kang's work, lightness, diversity and freshness became the reason for being picked. This work was finely sewed with soft a geometric form and color contrast. It is hard to believe that the perfection of round and angular object's architectural structure is consisted of light material. Sophistication, repeated structure and accessory pin color were perfectly blended with technically accurate composition. This one can be worn on the spot, the judges said.
BKV-Prize first started in 2006, is held every year to support artistic, professional development financially through professional advice, publication and announcements for young artists.
153 high quality applicants took part this year, and the winners for first prize, 2nd prize and 3rd prize were selected from among 20 finalists. Cho Min Ju (Graduate School, Metalwork '05) and Shin Hye Jin (Graduate School, Metalwork '05) were selected as finalists along with Kang.
On the day of the award ceremony, September 6th, 2012, finalist's and winner's artworks were displayed at the same time.
