Kookmin University’s Department of Electrical Engineering announced that it successfully hosted the “2026 Academic Year Department of Electrical Engineering Next-Generation Semiconductor Competition” on September 18.
 
This competition was organized by the Intelligent Semiconductor Convergence Electronics major within the Department of Electrical Engineering. Its purpose is to discover creative talent in the field of next-generation semiconductor technology, strengthen practical design and research capabilities, and cultivate interdisciplinary engineers who will lead the global semiconductor industry. Following a judging process, a total of 22 teams received final awards.
 
The prestigious Grand Prize was awarded to ▲ the “1T4L” team in the Design category (Capacitor-Less 1T DRAM with Multi-Level Cell Operation) and ▲ the “DRAM MASTER” team in the Intellectual Property category (IGZO-based Computation-Dependency-Controlled DRAM-PIM Computation Unit), respectively.
 
Notably, this year’s competition drew attention with the introduction of the “AI Innovation Award,” presented to teams that effectively verified their results and data using AI technology and produced outstanding final outcomes. The AI Innovation Award was presented to two teams: ▲ the “Itda” team (SRAM–STT-MRAM hybrid weight buffer for multi-task Edge AI) and ▲ the “Cheongchan Yangpa” team (prediction and experimental verification of IGZO-CNT hybrid inverter operating characteristics based on AI learning algorithms).
 
Kookmin University’s Department of Electrical Engineering is cultivating outstanding talent that meets industry demands and global standards through the Accreditation Board for Engineering Education in Korea (ABEEK). Furthermore, in conjunction with the Innovative Convergence University project, the department is actively strengthening and operating its capstone design courses to foster students’ creative problem-solving skills, practical competencies, and teamwork.
 
The Chair of the Department of Electrical Engineering stated, “We are providing specialized education focused on next-generation (intelligent) semiconductors, next-generation communications, next-generation mobility, and energy within the field of cutting-edge technology,” adding, “We will continue to focus on cultivating specialized and highly skilled interdisciplinary talent in line with future growth engines and the demands of emerging industries.”
