The graduation ceremony for the “2026 Training Program for Public Safety AI and Data Analysis Experts,” jointly operated by the Graduate School of Business at Kookmin University (President Jeong Seung Ryul) and the National Police Agency (Dean Kang Hyunmo), was held on the 4th at the Kookmin University Business Building.

This program was designed to train field-ready experts capable of solving various challenges in public safety settings using AI and data technologies. The ceremony was attended by Kang Hyun-mo, Dean of Kookmin University’s Graduate School of Business, along with faculty members and officials from the National Police Agency’s Future Public Safety Policy Bureau. The event featured a presentation on the program’s achievements, the awarding of certificates of completion, and an awards ceremony for outstanding projects.

First launched in 2023 and now in its fourth year, the program ran for a total of 120 hours starting on July 2. The 25 trainees, recommended by various bureaus and offices of the National Police Agency, completed core training in data analysis and artificial intelligence theory before undertaking a total of 11 team projects focused on problems they had identified directly in public safety settings.

The research by Team K3 was selected as the best project. They proposed a methodology for detecting suspicious drug transactions involving virtual assets using graph neural networks (GNN) and designed a fund-tracking analysis platform. The research team presented a method for detecting suspicious transactions by analyzing the flow of funds in such transactions and was evaluated primarily on the potential for real-world application in public safety operations.

Police Lieutenant Kim Seong-jae, representing Team K3, stated, “I believe it is an inevitable future that AI will bring significant changes to our surroundings and our work.” He added, “Although there are various constraints due to the unique nature of the public safety field, this training allowed us to jointly explore and discuss the topic of AI and public safety, and we will continue to develop this further so that it can be of practical help in the field.”

Kang Hyunmo, Dean of the Graduate School of Business at Kookmin University, remarked, “I believe you have now developed a sense of how to work alongside AI,” adding, “In the age of AI, cognitive flexibility—the ability to quickly learn new fields and bridge different areas of expertise—is even more important.” He continued, “I hope today’s graduation is not the end of your education, but rather a new beginning as future-oriented public safety professionals.”

Meanwhile, the Graduate School of Business at Kookmin University has been offering a master’s program in AI and Big Data since 2013, with the goal of cultivating practice-oriented AI and big data professionals. To support working professionals in balancing their studies with their careers, the school has introduced a one-year, full-time weekend program and a HyFlex learning model, thereby expanding practical training in the fields of AI and data.
