The Graduate School of Asian Olympic Studies at Kookmin University (Dean Rha Changsoon) officially published the specialized book *The Asian Games: Understanding OCA Governance and the Asian Olympics*, which systematically compiles the history and governance of Asian sports ahead of the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Summer Asian Games, on Monday, August 24, through the Kookmin University Press.

This new publication is significant as it is the first specialized book in Korea to academically and systematically cover the entire spectrum of Asian sports administration—ranging from the history and values of the Asian Games to the organization and governance of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), the professional competencies required by international sports organizations, and regulations related to anti-doping and safeguarding.

In particular, it was developed based on the core curriculum of Kookmin University’s Graduate School of Asian Olympic Studies (OGS), while also enhancing the practical understanding required for the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. Accordingly, it is expected to serve as a useful practical guide not only for researchers and students studying the field of international sports but also for sports administrators working in the field.

Lead author Professor Park Joo Hee, Head of the Asian Olympic Governance and Policy Program at Kookmin University’s Graduate School of Asian Olympic Studies (OGS), is an expert in international sports diplomacy and administration who currently serves as Chair of the OCA Athletes’ Commission and a member of the OCA Executive Committee, as well as Director of the Asian Olympic Research Center at Kookmin University. This book faithfully reflects the experience and academic insights Professor Park has accumulated in the field of international sports, and the participation of a team of professors specializing in sports—including Cho Young-hee, Im Sang-ah, and Jeong Yu-jin—as co-authors has further enhanced its expertise and academic rigor.

Professor Park Joo Hee stated, “This book is not merely an academic text but a practical guide containing the governance and competencies required in the field of international sports,” adding, “I hope it will serve as a key platform for conveying the true value of the Olympic Movement and the Asian Games to future international sports administrators and leaders.”

The book consists of seven chapters. It comprehensively covers key topics necessary for understanding the international sports landscape, including the values and development history of the Asian Games, the OCA’s competition management system, OCA governance and the structure of its 45 member nations, the roles and competencies of international sports organizations, and governance related to clean sports and anti-doping. In particular, the appendix includes official regulations that can be immediately referenced in the field—such as the Asian Games promotion guidelines, safeguarding guidelines, and regulations for preventing match-fixing—thereby enhancing its practical utility.

Husain Al-Musallam, OCA Secretary General, President of the World Aquatics Federation, and Honorary Dean of the Graduate School of Asian Olympic Studies at Kookmin University, wrote in his foreword: “This book serves as a reliable guide for those seeking to understand the Asian Games and the OCA, and a meaningful starting point for those preparing to become leaders in international sports,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Asia Olympic Graduate School at Kookmin University plans to use this publication as an opportunity to further strengthen its educational and research foundation regarding Asian sports governance—including the Asian Games and the OCA—and to accelerate the training of professionals who will play active roles in the international sports arena.
