Kookmin University (President Jeong Seung Ryul) held a launch event for the “KMU AX Innovation Alliance” at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, July 24, in the Main Conference Room of the Administration Building, and began full-scale discussions with companies in the AI and software sectors to build an industry-academia collaboration ecosystem.

Hosted by Kookmin University’s College of Software Convergence, the event was attended by university officials—including Vice President for Planning Shon JinSik, Director of the Information and Communications Division Yoon MyungKeun, and Dean of the College of Software Convergence Hwang SunTae—as well as representatives from leading companies in the AI, cloud, data, and enterprise software sectors, including TmaxTibero, NHN Cloud, Inogrid, LeMon, Hancom Inostream, Maum AI, Zaitron, M2 Cloud, Jin Infra, and KT.

Attendees discussed practical industry-academia collaboration measures, including projects that companies and the university can jointly pursue, as well as field training, internships, recruitment partnerships, and the operation of joint educational programs. In addition, proposals were made to form a corporate consortium to systematically train AI and software talent needed by the industry and to promote the introduction of contract enrollment quotas.

Kookmin University plans to continue expanding its collaborative network with companies in cutting-edge AI and software fields following the launch of the “KMU AX Innovation Alliance.” Through this initiative, the university aims to generate tangible results by aligning the technological capabilities of participating companies and industry demands with its education, research, and industry-academia collaboration systems. In particular, the university intends to establish a virtuous cycle linking education, projects, research, field internships, and recruitment by collaborating with companies in various fields, including cloud and AI infrastructure, generative AI and AI agents, data, enterprise software, security, and field-applied AI.

Celebrating its 80th anniversary, Kookmin University is preparing for a new leap toward the next 100 years under the vision of “A University Setting the Standard for Higher Education” and the slogan “Make the Rule, Break the Rule.” To this end, the university has established “KMU VISION 2035: EDGE,” its mid- to long-term development strategy, and selected eight specialized fields to intensively strengthen the university’s competitiveness.

This event is significant in that it focuses on “AI+X”—one of the eight specialized fields—to strengthen the industrial network and industry-academia collaboration infrastructure necessary for Kookmin University to emerge as an AI-centered university, and to establish a cooperative framework for the university and companies to jointly cultivate future AI and software talent. Kookmin University and the participating companies plan to continue regular exchanges and follow-up working-level consultations to identify various challenges in the industry and to consistently pursue joint collaborative projects in the areas of education, technology development, and talent cultivation to address these challenges.
