Kookmin University (President Jeong Seung Ryul) Graduate School of Business (Dean Kim Dohyeon) and the National Police Agency held an opening ceremony for the “2026 Public Safety AI and Data Analysis Expert Training Program” on Thursday, July 2, in Room 503 of the Kookmin University Business Building. Launched in 2023 and now in its fourth year, this program was established to train professionals capable of solving real-world public safety challenges using artificial intelligence (AI) and data analysis technologies. The program will run for approximately two months, from July 2 to September 4, at Kookmin University.

The class consists of 25 top-tier candidates selected through recommendations from various departments and bureaus of the National Police Agency and an evaluation of their research proposals. They will complete a total of 120 hours of intensive training, including theoretical and practical instruction from faculty specializing in AI and data analysis, as well as project work based on mentoring.

The opening ceremony was attended by Professor Kang HyunMo and other faculty members from Kookmin University, as well as officials from the National Police Agency’s Future Public Safety Policy Bureau. In his welcome address, Professor Kang Hyun-mo stated, “I sincerely welcome all the trainees who have joined this program to solve the problems they encounter in the field using AI and data,” adding, “As we have prepared a curriculum that comprehensively covers the latest AI technologies, I expect these trainees, equipped with on-the-ground expertise, to combine their skills with technology and make a significant impact.”

The “2026 Public Safety AI and Data Analysis Expert Training Program” is a professional development program jointly developed by the National Police Agency’s Future Public Safety Policy Bureau and Kookmin University’s Graduate School of Business. The program consists of a two-week intensive training session covering core competencies required of AI and data analysis experts—including data collection, processing, and visualization; inferential statistics; machine learning and deep learning; and AI agents—followed by a six-week project-based advanced training session focused on solving real-world police operational challenges.

Meanwhile, the Graduate School of Business at Kookmin University has been offering a master’s program in AI and Big Data since 2013, with the goal of training practice-oriented AI and big data professionals. In particular, to support working professionals in balancing their studies with their careers, the school has introduced a one-year weekend full-time program and a HyFlex learning model, thereby contributing to the development of professionals in the fields of artificial intelligence and data.
