Kookmin University (President Jeong Seung Ryul) held the “Launch Ceremony for the 2026 Kookmin University 80th Anniversary Development Support Committee” at the Four Seasons Hotel Seoul's Nuri Ballroom II on Thursday, February 26, to commemorate its 80th anniversary.

This launch ceremony was held to raise awareness among all alumni about the university's 80th anniversary and to foster cooperation among key stakeholders for university support. Alongside this committee launch, Kookmin University is launching an ‘AI·Quantum Education Fundraising Campaign’. By actively investing the university's matching funds corresponding to the raised amount, it plans to establish a foundation to lead the upcoming AI·quantum era.

The AI·Quantum Education Fund Campaign, launched to mark the 80th anniversary, aims to cultivate core talent who will lead future industrial and societal structural changes. The raised funds will be used to promote educational innovation in AI and quantum technology beyond the limitations of basic technical training, and to build a cutting-edge, future-oriented educational environment where new ideas are generated.

The launch ceremony was attended by a total of 50 participants, including Kookmin University President Jeong Seung Ryul, Kookmin Academy Foundation Director Ki Byung-jun, Kookmin University Alumni Association President Kim Hyung-nam, and International Asset Management Chairman Yoo Jae-eun, along with key university officials, major donors, and members of the Development Support Committee.

The event commenced with the declaration of the Development Support Committee's launch, followed by the presentation of appointment certificates and plaques of appreciation, and the announcement of the university's development plan. President Jeong shared the university's development history and presented its future vision, including plans for the 80th anniversary commemorative events. Subsequently, a letter of appointment was presented to Han Min-gyu (Physical Education '78), Senior Vice President of the Alumni Association, representing the Development Support Committee. Plaques of appreciation were presented to Yoo Jae-eun (Public Administration '75), Chairman of International Asset Management, and Hwang Sung-kwan (Chemistry '85), CEO of MFC Co., Ltd., in recognition of their significant contributions to the university's development.

The celebratory performance featured actors Kim Bo-mi (Theater & Film ‘08) and Kim Dae Woong (Theater & Film '07), both graduates of the Department of Performing Arts’ Theater and Film major, along with Professor Lee Hye Jung from the Vocal Music major, who took the stage, further enhancing the significance of the event.

President Jeong Seung Ryul stated, “Over the past 80 years, Kookmin University has pioneered new paths in education and research amid the changing times,” adding, “In an era where AI and quantum technology become core competitive strengths for future society, I ask for the continued interest and participation of our alumni and members so that Kookmin University can become a center for talent cultivation and research.”
