Kookmin University (President Jung Seung-ryul) opened a new chapter in global design education and research cooperation by successfully hosting the 2024 GLOBAL FUTURE DESIGN SUMMIT on December 6. A total of 11 prominent design universities participated in the event, including Kookmin University, eight art academies in China, and one university in Vietnam. The event was organized by the Techno Design Institute and the Techno Design Graduate School Interaction Design Lab.

The event, which was hosted by Kookmin University Vice President KIM, HYOUNG-JIN, kicked off with the appointment of 12 foreign doctoral program co-advisors. It was a meaningful time for the university to strengthen global cooperation and introduce a joint doctoral program. At the appointment ceremony, Jang Joong-sik, the dean of the Techno Design Professional Graduate School, personally presented the appointment letters. This joint supervision system is part of a strategy to expand global-level research and educational cooperation and to demonstrate the excellence of fostering future design professionals.

A forum was held to discuss the future of global design education. The following forum was held with the invited university presidents from each country discussing the future development direction of design education and industry. At the forum, Professor Chen Xuguang of Peking University, Professor Wang Haizhou of Beijing Film Academy, Professor Fan Zhong of Zhejiang University, Professor Zhou Fan of Central Academy of Fine Arts, Professor Fang Xin of Wuhan University of Technology, Professor Feng Feng of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, Professor Yang Jianhe of Qingdao University of Science and Technology, Professor Du Jiang of Kunming University of Science and Technology, Professor Yin Jun of Jiangnan University of China, and Professor Phan Quan Nhung and Nguyen Duc Tai of Van Lang University of Vietnam gave lectures on design education and future strategies in their respective countries.

In particular, this event also held a global publication event for the Blue Book of China Film 2024, co-authored by Professor Chen Xuguang of Peking University and Professor Fan Zhiqiang of Zhejiang University. The two professors, who are co-authors of the book, said, “We hope this event will serve as an important bridge for cultural exchange between China and Korea,” and presented Professor Byeong-hwan Pyeon, the head of the Techno Design Institute, which organized the event, with a commemorative book for the first publication.

Kookmin University will continue to plan and implement development plans such as various design education activities and joint guidance systems to strengthen global research cooperation.
