The 「Kookmin Engineering FESTA 2024」 hosted by the Engineering Education Innovation Center (Cha Pil Ryung, Director) at Korea University opened on Tuesday, June 4, and was judged, awarded, and exhibited until Friday, June 14. 

The 「Kookmin Engineering FESTA 2024」 has been held every year since 2017 and is now in its eighth year. This year's competition consisted of the Engineering Design Competition and Intellectual Property Competition hosted by the Engineering Education Innovation Center, the X-Materials Competition hosted by the Department of New Materials Engineering, College of Creative Engineering, and the Creative Design Competition for Electronics hosted by the Department of Electronics Engineering, College of Creative Engineering. In particular, from this year, the X-Materials Competition and the Electronic Engineering Creative Design Competition, which had been held separately, were held on an integrated schedule, and the winners of the X-Materials Competition were jointly exhibited and an integrated award ceremony was held, making the Kookmin Engineering FESTA a true festival of engineering students.

President Jeong Seung Ryul, Vice President Son Jin Sik, and other faculty members, Dean Cha Pil Ryung, professors and students from the College of Creative Engineering attended the opening ceremony on Tuesday, June 4. After the opening ceremony, they visited the prototypes of the participating students and interacted with them. 
President Jeong Seung Ryul emphasized that "Kookmin University needs the challenging spirit of students who are not afraid of failure in order to become the best entrepreneurship university in Korea." He showed great interest and encouragement to the participating students.

After the opening ceremony, internal judges consisting of faculty members from the College of Creative Engineering and external judges, including Dr. Kim Jin Woo, a senior researcher at KIST, and Dr. Park Seung Min, a senior researcher at the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology, visited the prototypes of the participating students and conducted face-to-face judging. 

At the award ceremony held in Engineering Hall 228, the KMUELITE team (Han Seok Beom and 4 others) won the grand prize in the Prototype (Single Major) category of the Engineering Design Contest for their "Leveling Motorized Walker," and the Algoitso team (Kim Sung Woo  and 3 others) won the grand prize in the Prototype (Interdisciplinary Major) category for their "Temperature Display Tumbler for the Blind. 

In the Idea category of the Engineering Design Competition, a written evaluation of the work description and poster was conducted, and the Lifeguard team (Yoo Kwang Ryul and 5 others) won the grand prize for their design of a rescue stretcher using an automatic leveling device. In the intellectual property contest, experts in the field of intellectual property, including Hong Jeong Pyo, director of the Field Practice Support Center, Kim Hyun Dong, professor at Daejin University, and Min Byung Ho, patent attorney at JeongTeuk, evaluated prior art search reports and patent claims, and the transformer team (Jeon Sung Jae and three others), which proposed a fan that doubles as a clothes dryer, won the grand prize. 

The X-Materials Competition in the Department of New Materials Engineering and the Creative Design Competition in the Department of Electronics Engineering were judged by the faculties themselves, and the grand prizes were awarded to the Nun Me Pajo team (Park Hyung Jin and 1 other) for their proposal for "Material and Structural Mechanics Design of Seeding Device for Desertification Prevention" and the KSR team (Kim Ki Hyun and 4 other) for their design of "Autonomous Object Recognition Exploration Robot". The grand prize winners in all categories of the 「Kookmin Engineering FESTA 2024」 will receive two university scholarships and cash prizes, and the gold prize winners will receive three university scholarships and cash prizes.

The award ceremony was filled with the enthusiasm of the participating teams, who cheered every time the winners were called. 

The students who participated in the 「Kookmin Engineering FESTA 2024」 showed high satisfaction, saying, "I was able to improve my engineering knowledge by participating in the competition in cooperation with my teammates, and it helped me to improve my major knowledge by working on the project with other students," and "I will strive to become a better student by receiving feedback from professors and experts. It was a meaningful activity during my university life," and expressed that they would like to have more opportunities to participate in competitions like this in the future.

The winning team will be eligible to participate in the preliminary round of the 「2024 Engineering Festival Creative Comprehensive Design Competition」 organized by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy for universities nationwide through an on-campus screening process. 

From this competition, the participating works were exhibited in the lobby of the first floor of the Engineering Building until June 14 (Fri), and the works of the winning teams can be viewed on the content playground exhibition board on the Kookmin University website.
