When we go to the library we like the smell of books.
We like the sounds of pencils working in the study rooms too. When we don't know what to do, visiting the library can be an interesting stimulation and comforting as well.

Actually we all have memories of the library, such as a place to overcome loneliness or boredom, studying for the bar exam, reading new books without any time limits… if you are a passionate youth, you may have mixedmemories of the library, both sad and joyful.
Sungkok Library, which started asKookmin University'sBook Department when the school opened in December 1946, has as many memories as it has a long history.

Time changes the library

Times have changed. In the past students used newspapers and paper books. Now they are using smart phones and tablets. These days, paper is not as important a method for acquiring information as in the past. To stay up to date with the times, a few weeks ago Sungkok Libraryfinished remodeling and now has an electronic system using new digital technology. We can see this changeto the library on the first floor lobby and delivery room. If we don't read paper books, we can still search books though various electronic methods.


Apply for various materials

The library is no longer just a place to read books and study. Now Sungkok Library's many programs can help students making studying more convenient. The electronic library can eliminate the need for heavy and thick books. If you use the TOEIC and TOEFL services offered by the library, you can save on your academic fees. Also, on the library's homepage students can apply to receive 5 books a month for free.I hope the library will make life easier for students in their school life.

Communication and enjoyment

Recently, the importance of accessing many different subjects comes to the fore. A library is the unity of knowledge with various subjects. Ha Na Kim (major in Korean Literature '10) is astudent who uses the library, and she says that the library helps her to think deeply and understand various experiences. Also, when entering the university people may think that there is nothing interesting and that there will be no chanceto get to know other people. This happens more than we think.Now, in thisfeeling of absence of culture, the library is the best place to enjoy school's life more than anywhere.

Books are the best gift for peoplewho want a new start. Books give us courage and comfort, and help clear our minds.
