Do you know about the sculptures installed in school?

Kookmin University students must have seen various sculptures installed all over the school. However, have you ever observed them carefully? Have you ever pondered over the meaning each sculpture connotes? If not, after reading this article, we would like you to look at them carefully and think deeply. These sculptures will catch your eye if you try to understand them.

There are total four sculptures installed in front of the concert hall where lots of sculptures are particularly installed. Probably, the most familiar sculpture to Kookminians is a sculpture of human shape with various colors standing on the tilt. The title of this sculpture is 'A large group of people at a 36.5-degree angle'. This sculpture being free from the existence of 'gravity' is illustrating concept and position of human, overall study of value and property through a large group of people standing on the tilt at a 36.5-degree angle.

'Contact' is also one of the sculptures installed in front of the concert hall. This sculpture is made of stainless steel and therefore is very hard to handle with. Since materials like stainless steel require great patience until the piece is completed, not only a wonderful completed work but also a power of balance that completes the whole through assembling thoughts and arranging parts embodies nobleness of art. It will be a lot of fun to look carefully into the parts that complete the piece, so let us take note when we pass by.

'Contact'

A sculpture so-called 'Companion', made of cement is installed by the flowerbeds on the opposite side of the concert hall. This piece is designed for a pleasant break time and the innocence of childhood by providing relaxation in our busy life which is becoming more and more soulless. Cements used in this work are quite cold and artificial materials, but this sculpture is reformed through embodying the image that recollects the innocence of childhood.

Beside the cafeteria in the College of Engineering, there stands a sculpture where lines form houses and those houses form a village. The villages in the sculpture have their own windows generating different rays and also have the houses of different forms. The windows giving out various rays represent the different images of ourselves and the houses of different forms represent the space where we are together. The village stands for the coexistence of space where united people live together. In addition, through this sculpture, we can reconsider our image where we coexist in different figures with various buildings and rays connected.

At present, there are a lot more sculptures installed in school other than the aforementioned. However, just having the sculptures installed in a specific place is not the end of work. A sculpture so-called 'Being all ears' was installed in the square in front of Bugak hall, but then was ruined by the students in the year 2008 and had to be demolished.

Who is the owner of the campus? It is Kookminians. If the Kookminians as the owner of the campus pay more attention to these installed sculptures with a sense of ownership, the sculptures in school will be more valuable.
