There have been increased concerns and problems at Kookmin University due to miscommunication and distrust between students and the school's student council. Many students believe that the student council of 2014 failed to represent students properly. Also, the current student council, "So-Tong", seems to be suffering from this as well and are doing its best to restore its reputation and prove that they stand right beside the students at Kookmin. To begin with, some accidents inevitably occur; it is impossible to prevent all from occurring. Therefore, nobody should be blamed for them happening, however, it always ends up with somebody being blamed and being responsible for them. Considering all the accidents that have happened in the past, the main problem was the lack of communication. However, the real problem lies in the fact that students don't seem to know what it is that the student council actually does.
In order to decrease the rate of accidents from happening in school, we must first know what it is that the current student council does. The current student council, So-Tong, is divided into three different committees: The Student Body itself, the Central Executive Committee and the Central Operations Committee. The student body simply represents So-Tong's president and vice-president. They usually carry out meetings with various student representatives from different majors and carry out new activities that may increase the quality of campus life for students. The Central Operations Committee consists of 14 representatives from each college, representatives of the Federation of Clubs and the Graduation Preparation Committee. All of these representatives are given separate independent tasks that focus primarily on their own areas of duty. They plan their own activities and rules that are within the boundaries set by the student council and the school itself.  Finally, the Central Executive Committee is divided into eight different bureaus: The Executive Office, the Administration Office, the Planning and Management Office, the Media Control Office, the Communications and Public-relations Office, the Women’s Communication Office, the Sports Office and the Welfare Office. All of these different offices and different committees combined are primarily focused on increasing communication between everyone at all times and create a synergy effect by providing students with everything they need. The Executive Office researches various information that the student council needs in order for it to function properly. In addition, this section of the council manages all the budget and plans out which activities to be budgeted in or out. The Administration Office is a newly formed section this year that will work as a control tower of the student council. It oversees all the work that will be done by the different offices of the council. The Planning and Management Office primarily focuses on planning various in-school events and putting them into reality. The Media Control Office will take responsibility for advertising and informing students of various activities that will be carried out by the council. Moreover, they also create and edit pictures and videos around the school during every event that will be kept as a record for the students and the school to remember as history. The Communications and Public-relations Office provides students with various necessary information that they should all be aware of. Also they are in charge of the school's homepage and Facebook page where students can express their thoughts and needs that they believe the student council should be aware of. The Women's Communication Office manages various welfare activities for female students and the foreign students at Kookmin University. Their job includes providing women's supplies, resting places for women and cultural exchange services for foreign students. The Sports Office increases awareness for the importance of taking care of mental and physical strength. Their main area of work is to manage the Bugak League, Kookmin University's soccer competition, and Kookmin's Long March. These events are all held annually. Lastly, The Welfare Office mainly aids big events held by each college and takes care of overall welfare needs of Kookmin University's students. Their primary welfare services include receiving parcels for students, and lending umbrellas, table tennis equipment, hair-straighteners and dryers.

The president of So-Tong mentioned in an interview, "Previously, the student council members didn't have anyone who was able to fluently speak foreign languages and always felt that they weren't able to communicate with the foreign students at Kookmin University." Usually, they received help from outsiders, who had nothing to do with the organization, to accommodate foreign students and help them participate in certain events or activities. On the other hand, "the current student council has no problem communicating with foreigners because its members are able to deal with languages such as English and Chinese." Now that the Student Body can accommodate literally everyone from Kookmin including the foreign students, and have clear divisions of which section deals with what problems, we as the students can await and hope for the best for students and the school. Also, we hope that each division and committee will successfully communicate with one another and function properly so that no more accidents will occur, making Kookmin University known as a great and safe place to be.
