K-card that is the necessity of Kookmin*People! K-card is the abbreviation of ‘Kookmin University Card’ and it refers to the student ID, ID card, and management card of Kookmin University. Kookmin*People generally use K-card for e-attendance check, library use, and computer center use. However, there are more to be enjoyed with K-card. Here, the secrets of K-card are unveiled for the better second semester of Kookmin*People who visit the university homepage during the summer break.

 

 

Lunch with ‘Hi-pass function’ that is known only by few

K-card cyber money refers to the chargeable prepaid cyber money issued by Kookmin University. Many of you have already experienced charging the cyber money to your K-card to use a printer in the Computer Center. Most students use this function only when availing the services of the Computer Center or Copying Center. If so, where else can we use the cyber money function?


 

This function shines in the cafeteria during lunch time when the students form long lines to get a meal ticket. It is called Lunch hour K-card Hi-pass! In the cafeteria of Kookmin University, there are cafeteria in the Student Union and Hanul Restaurant in the College of Law. During lunch time, the queue of people reached up to the next floor in the Hanul Restaurant and a never-ending line of people is extended in front of the book store to have lunch in the cafeteria of the Student Union. However, there are people who pass through the long lines like breeze, and these are the people who know the hi-pass function of the K-card.

 

In order to buy a meal ticket in the cafeteria and Hanul Restaurant, an unmanned meal ticket machine or meal counter must be used. Also, we have to line up for the meal after getting a meal ticket. However, there is no need to line up twice if you use a K-card. There is a K-card payment machine installed in front of all meal service counters in the cafeteria and Hanul Restaurant. After charging cyber money to your K-card, place the card to the machine. Then, you are ready to enjoy your meal without waiting in line for 10 ~ 20 minutes. Use this function and enjoy more quality time during your lunch break. However, it is difficult to use the payment machine if you want to order flour-based food and Ramen since the prices of these food items vary.

Tip. The charger of K-card cyber money is located in the Computer Center of each building (Building 7, College of Economics & Business, College of Engineering, College of Science, College of Law, Bugak Hall, College of Arts, College of Design), library (Multimedia Archive, DB corner of National Assembly Library), Bugak Hall, lobby at the College of Law, and Student Union (1st and 2nd floor).

 

 

Get extra points for the money you spent in the campus! The points of the Consumers’ Cooperatives!

 

 

The point system of the Consumers’ Cooperatives is the function that awards 2% of the amount used in your K-card at on-campus stores. However, it is different from the point saving/use offered in general stores. First of all, you have to join the Kookmin University Consumers’ Cooperatives to save the Consumers’ Cooperatives points. Once you join as member, you are given points depending on your on-campus money use.

Unlike general point saving/use, the saved points cannot be used. Instead, the members receive the amount that multiplies the saved points to the dividend rate of the fiscal year once a year. The amount to be distributed regarding your on-campus money use is calculated based on {saved points (2% of total amount used)* the dividend rate of the fiscal year}. The dividend rate in 2013 was 3.41% and that of 2012 was 11.78%. The dividend rate of the fiscal year is decided through vote of the members in the general meeting after the termination of each fiscal year. At that time, the period of a fiscal year is from March to February of the following year. For example, if a person spent 300 thousand won in point-savable on-campus stores from March 2013 to February 2014, ‘6,000 (2% of 300 thousand won)*3.41, which is 20,460 won, can be received as the amount of distribution.

The point-savable on-campus stores are all on-campus stores except for one in the College of Arts (Bugak Hall, College of Science, library, College of Engineering, Student Union, College of Law, dormitory), on-campus cafes, (Bugak Hall, College of Law), library, and stationary stores. For point saving, present a K-card that was registered when joining in the membership along with your preferred method of payment (cash, card). Also, it is possible to save your points through a registered mobile phone number or via the barcode issued by the office of the Consumers’ Cooperatives.

 

Senior Manager Yong-hui Jo of the Kookmin University Consumers’ Cooperatives said, “The Consumers’ Cooperatives exert efforts to provide affordable and convenient services for the members of Kookmin University to enjoy. Currently, about 330 students out of total 707 members are participating. There is no development without participation. The purpose of the businesses promoted in the Consumers’ Cooperatives is to provide better welfare services to the service users while returning benefits to the cooperative members. I hope that more students will join in the cooperatives to save points and reap benefits from their use.”

 

 

Do you separately prepare a bus card?

Today is a lucky day. A bus heading for school just arrived as soon as I reached the bus station. But where is my bus card? Oh, no… I forgot the card in the pocket of the jacket that I wore yesterday. People are waiting behind me so I had to spend more by paying with cash.

The third hidden function of K-card for Kookmin*People who often encounter such situation! No need to bring several cards in your wallet; instead, take a K-card with you. K-card has bus card function. In the student ID card issued to those who entered after 2012, this bus card function is available. All you have to do is to charge the card with prepayment in the areas with U-PASS charging machine before taking a bus. Those who entered before 2012, take your student ID and resident registration card to the Service Center on the 1st floor of the Administration Hall to avail of the traffic card function using your student ID.
 
There are many hidden functions of K-card. K-card, the necessity of Kookmin*People and various benefits provided for Kookmin*People who spend much time inside the campus besides attending classes!
