The ‘Life Sharing Design Exhibition’ to encourage blood and organ donation was held at the second floor lobby in the National Assembly Member's Office from July 8th to 12th, having the theme as ‘love shares a life.’ This event was hosted by Assemblywoman Jeong Lim Mun, and Kookmin University as well as donation organizations including Hanmaeum Blood Center, Korean Association of Life Sharing, and Korea Donation Life Network. Especially, 102 design works exhibited in the event were selected from a total of 225 artworks among 27 students from the master’s and doctor’s course and 2 undergraduates under the guidance of academic advisor Kim, Min in the Graduate School of Techno Design. As those design works were promoted for a semester as a project, the significance of such talent donation among the young artists is further highlighted.
Professor Kim, Min who promoted the project with the students participated in the ‘Pro Bono’ movement to expand the base of design demand by sharing the design culture to the socially neglected groups and practice a new educational paradigm heading towards ‘social community’ through the sharing of knowledge and talent. Professor Kim revealed, “For friendly and effective delivery of the message on blood and organ donation among people, the unique ideas of the students were themed with life sharing. The misunderstood ideas on donation were expressed in a simple manner for people to understand better and enjoy artworks in connection with the major course of the students.”
Assemblywoman Jeong Lim Mun who directly hosted the event said, “The idea that blood, organ, and tissue donation is the practice of love is well understood among the public; however, it is necessary to further promote this idea to encourage active participation.” She then added, “I hope this event will serve as a momentum to naturally settle the blood and organ donation culture in our lives and visitors are encouraged to practice donation while appreciating the new design works that were presented through the talent donation of the young artists.”
Yi, Yun-yeong who directly participated in design work (doctor’s course in the Graduate School of Techno Design) cleverly designed a t-shirt to permeate the idea of blood and organ donation, which is a valuable and beautiful act to share a life, by using various visual techniques. She said, “Through this annual event of Pro Bono, our talent donation can support social independence among the socially feeble, low-income class, socially neglected people, and the disabled and it is expected to solve various social issues while improving individual and social awareness.”
President Yu, Ji-su who participated in support of the love-sharing exhibition with the theme ‘love shares a life’ said, “I hope for the continuous sharing of love and life through the young artists.” After appreciating the design works of the students, President Yu said, “I feel the great passion of the students and it is possible to present such great works through the passion shown by the students.” The students of the Graduate School of Techno Design took a lot of pride on what they have done and the president said, “It not only donates your own talent but also shares the idea of the sanctity of life through talent donation. Since talent donation can be shared with others, I hope to make continuous contribution to the local communities like Seongbuk-gu Office by actively encouraging the students’ active participation in talent donation.”
The 102 artworks exhibited in the event delivered unique expression and especially, the design of Seo, Won-gyeong (Department of Visual Design, 2009) who was inspired after reading Papillon written by Bernard Werber drew quite an attention. The artist expressed, “As I read that part where the male hero took out his rib to save a woman, I thought it could be understood as organ donation. So such idea was expressed as the painting of Adam and Eve.”
Also, Jeong, Ryeo-hwa (Department of Techno Design, 2011, foreign student) said, “It is amazing to know that a brain-dead donor can donate organs to nine people. I think there is no other valuable thing than to present life to others.” She added that she once again realize the importance and necessity of life sharing through this love sharing exhibition.
Cheon, Ae-ri (Department of Techno Design, 2012) donated 9 design works out of 20 sketches and selected a total of 6 artworks for the exhibition. “Since blood or organ donation is an act of life sharing, it cannot be taken lightly. However, the idea of life sharing shouldn’t be expressed so seriously. So through a friendly material t-shirt, I intended to derive sympathy on the idea of life sharing away from forcing. While preparing for this event, I started thinking that I could be a donor and donee. So I encourage everyone’s participation for the blood and organ donation.”
The ‘Life Sharing Design Exhibition’ that intended to promote organ and blood donation will become an annual event starting next year. It is expected to be an event that can encourage and practice life sharing movement while permeating the importance of blood and organ donation among the public. Also, it is expected that blood and organ donation will gain public interest and the practice of love sharing will settle as the life culture in the society. We should all remember that we can create the miraculous power to share lives through our love and concern.
This exhibition will be promoted at the second floor lobby in the National Assembly Member's Office from July 8th to 12th.
