Headache, stuffy nose, cough, fever, itchy eyes, sore throat, muscle aches - if you are like most people, you know these symptoms of common cold already. Spring is really here but the change of season is also here with us. When the seasons change, people get colds like clockwork because the temperature fluctuates considerably from night to day and both children and adults are more susceptible to colds in this season. So Review teaches you a few simple measures and well known home remedies to help you protect from getting sick and keeping the flu away.

Cold Remedy #1: Wash your hands regularly. Each day hands are exposed to many contaminated surfaces. For this reason, the simple act of hand washing is the single most important means of preventing the spread of viral and bacterial infections.

Cold Remedy #2: Drink plenty of fluids to help break up your congestion. Drinking water or juice will keep your throat moist and prevent dehydration. You should drink at least 1.5L water daily, 8 to 10 cups every day, including other fluids such as sports drinks, herbal teas, fruit drinks, or ginger tea. However, other drinks that contain caffeine are not recommended because it makes your body increase its production of waste fluids and make you urinate more often.

Gargling warm water with a teaspoon of salt four times daily may help moisten sore throat and bring temporary relief.

Cold Remedy #4: Sleep with an extra pillow under your head. This will help drain the nasal passages. If the angle is too awkward, try placing the pillows between the mattresses to make a more gradual slope. It is important to breathe air in right way against a cold or flu.
