Kookmin University (President Jeong Seung-ryul) Judo Club (Coach Lee Kyu-won) student Han Seong-woo (Sports Education Department, 22) won a gold medal at the 2025 Yanggu Peace Cup National Judo Tournament held at the Yanggu County Culture and Sports Center in Gangwon Province from May 7 (Wed) to 12 (Mon), 2025. With approximately 330 university students participating, this tournament is considered one of the largest events for university judo athletes. At this stage where representatives from each university competed, the National University Judo Team demonstrated both skill and teamwork, showcasing the strength of a top-tier team.

Han Seong-woo, who won the gold medal, defeated Yeoju University in the first round, then defeated Kimcheon University and Dong-Eui University in the second and third rounds, respectively, by penalty to advance to the semifinals.

In the semifinals, he defeated a Dong-A University athlete with a pin victory, and in the final, he defeated a Korean National Sport University athlete with a waist throw victory to claim the gold medal.

Han Seong-woo of Kookmin University stated, “This result is even more valuable because I endured difficult training and prepared thoroughly. I would like to express my gratitude to my coach and teammates who always guided me, and I will strive to achieve better results on bigger stages in the future.”

This achievement is not only a testament to individual ability but also a result of the systematic training system of the National University of Korea Judo Team, earning high praise. The team has consistently placed in major competitions such as the National University Judo Club Championships and the National University Judo Federation Championships, establishing itself as a leading force in university judo.

In particular, the fact that Professor Lee Kyu-won, who achieved a grand slam at the World Judo Championships, is directly coaching the athletes is another strength of the National University of Korea Judo Team. As a former national team member with experience on the world stage, Professor Lee provides comprehensive guidance that encompasses technical training, mental management, and strategic thinking.

Professor Lee Kyu-won stated, “Han Seong-woo's gold medal is not merely a result of individual talent but the outcome of the entire team's dedicated training and analysis over an extended period.” He added, “The National University Judo Team aims to cultivate athletes who can excel not only in short-term achievements but also on the international stage in the long run.”
