Students from Kookmin University's Department of Biomedical Engineering won the best presentation award at the 2024 Korean Society of Pulp and Paper Engineers' Fall Conference, held Oct. 24-25 at Chungnam National University in Daejeon, South Korea.

Founded in 1967, the Korea Pulp and Paper Technology Association plays a pivotal role in the promotion and development of the pulp and paper industry by promoting research and technology development related to the development of the pulp and paper industry and providing the latest relevant information.

At the conference, Chae Eun Chae from the Department of Biomedical Engineering won the 'Best Graduate Student Presentation Award' for her presentation on 'Optimizing pulp mixtures for hygiene paper with different fiber properties using mixture design', in which she analyzed the effects of pulp properties on tissue using a three-component mixture analysis method and proposed a technique for predicting tissue quality, Nayoung Kang won the 'Best Poster Presentation Award' for her presentation on 'Preparation of heavy metal ion adsorption aerogel using carboxymethyl chitosan and CNF', which described the development of a pH-sensitive membrane based on natural materials with a separation capacity of over 95% for heavy metals.

“We are very proud to be recognized for our research excellence by the Pulp and Paper Engineering Society and applaud the students for their efforts,” said Professor Kim Hyung-jin. ”We expect them to contribute to the development of science and technology in Korea as the next generation of academics.”

With this award, the Department of Forestry and Biotechnology at Kookmin University has demonstrated its excellence in the field of pulp and paper and cellulose-based eco-friendly materials research.
