Team Hz (Lee Sung Hoon, Lee Tae Hoon, Lim Jung Bae, Cho Bum Jin, Lee Ho Hyun, all 21st year students of the Department of Visual Design) won the grand prize (KRW 5 million) and Team 8.7oz (Park Min Ha, Kang Ji Ah, Kwon Jih Hyun, Seo Hwan Hee, 22nd year students of the Department of Visual Design) won the second prize (KRW 3 million) at the 2024 Korea Epson Crystal 4K AI New Media Art Video Contest.

The contest was organized by Epson Korea to celebrate the launch of its 4K 3LCD high-brightness projector and sponsored by the Korea Creative Content Agency to discover and foster emerging media artists. Team Hz and Team 8.7oz, who were selected as the final five teams after the first round of submissions (40 teams applied in total) in early May, and the first round of document screening and the second round of presentation screening, worked hard during the summer vacation with additional production funding from Epson Korea, and produced the result in the form of a 360-degree immersive performance.

The final judging took place on Tuesday, August 27 at 2:00 p.m. in the large exhibition and experience space at the Fifactory Studio, with a demonstration of the actual work and an artist presentation. The final judging panel of 10 judges from Epson Korea and Epson's headquarters in Japan, as well as faculty members from video-related departments in Korea, was impartial and awarded the first and second place prizes, allowing Team Hz to outperform other teams comprised of established artists and graduate students from competing universities.

“I feel like I was rewarded for my hard work during my vacation,” said Lim Jung Bae of Team Hz, ”and I'm proud that we proved that if we trust and follow the education provided by the curriculum of Kookmin University's Department of Image Design, we can have sufficient external competitiveness.” Park Min Ha, a member of Team 8.7oz, said, “It was a valuable opportunity to experience true collaboration with AI based on my professional skills as a visual design major, not just generating images or videos through simple prompt input.”
