Kookmin University Alumnus Jong-seong Yi (Class of 2013) Receives the Young Engineer Travel Award in the Turbo Expo of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)

Jong-seong Yi, from the Graduate School of Mechanics and Design (Class of 2015) at Kookmin University, was presented with the Young Engineer Travel Award at the Turbomachinery Technical Conference Exposition of Turbo Expo organized by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). This event was held in Canada for one week from June 15th to 19th. ASME Turbo Expo publishes more than 1,000 peer-reviewed articles and has more than 3,000 industry-academic cooperation experts in the field of turbomachinery. This is the biggest event among academic conferences held by the ASME. The 60th anniversary of ASME will be held in Korea in 2016. This will be the first time that this event will be hosted in Asia since it has been customary to hold the event in Europe and North America.
The Kookmin University alumnus Jong-seong Yi is currently working as a researcher in the laboratory of Vibration Reduction Machine Design at the Department of Mechanics and Design of Kookmin University. Including the poster presentation of this conference, he published a total of two theses under the supervision of his academic advisor, Professor Tae-ho Kim. Yi received the Young Engineer Travel Award in recognition of his contribution to ASME by publishing excellent theses in relation to the development of gas foil journal bearing technology for eco-friendly and oil-free turbomachinery. He also received additional cash prize of about 3.5 million Won.
