On June 5 (Wednesday), Kookmin University (President Jeong Seung ryul) newly remodeled the basement of the College of Art and Design into an 'Imagination Studio' that updated its educational space, facilities, and equipment to meet the evolving educational environment. To commemorate the occasion, President Jeong Seung ryul, the deans, and 30 members of the faculty attended the ceremony.

The 'Imagination Workshop', which was funded by the University Innovation Support Project, consists of a laser cutting room, CNC room, and woodworking space, and is equipped with various specialized equipment including CNC routers. Compared to the existing equipment, the new equipment is characterized by its ability to realize students' imagination easily and efficiently. This space reflects Kookmin University's educational philosophy of transforming various spaces on campus into workshops that train students to become practical talents through various practical exercises, rather than just a place to take classes.

Kookmin University has a vision to build an educational ecosystem without academic and physical boundaries, with community spirit and pragmatism as its educational philosophy. To this end, KU is innovating its educational system to transcend the boundaries and divides that exist between various areas, such as between academic areas, between curricula, between subjects and non-subjects, between grades, and between educational subjects, which have been pointed out as problems in the existing educational system. These efforts are aimed at helping students grow into interdisciplinary and creative individuals who can contribute to the development of their communities and nations.

Kookmin University's commitment to developing talent that can benefit real life beyond mere theory is also evident in other spaces. In 2018, the university library was renamed "Haedong K*reator's Library" in the basement of the library with the goal of transforming the library into a "complex learning and cultural space" where students can enjoy and experience culture while cultivating practical skills through various hands-on exercises to realize their creative thinking. The spacious creative space, where students can freely discuss without partitions, is an advantage for generating innovative ideas and exchanging opinions freely.

Efforts to actively improve the infrastructure for students' practice are not limited to the College of Architecture, but also to other majors. The College of Software Convergence's autonomous driving studio and infinite imagination room are among the most unique infrastructures that are comparable to other universities. In the College of Creative Arts and Engineering's Department of Electronic Engineering, the Drone Studio - ELEC SHOP, which integrates spaces to improve the existing graduate laboratory into a preparation space for competitions and contests, is also well-received by many students.

"Kookmin University's design, which is one of the best in Korea, will take a leap forward with the new infrastructure," said Jang Jung Sik, dean of the College of Architecture. "We will continue to strive to fulfill the university's social responsibility by opening the 'Imagination Studio' to local residents."
