Kookmin University (President Jeong Seung Ryul) announced on the 28th that the LINC 3.0 Project Group has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with 25 universities nationwide, the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO), and 10 professional baseball clubs for the “KBO NINE Season 2024 Beyond Region,” an ESG-community win-win project.

The KBO NINE Season 2024 Beyond Region, which began in 2022 and is now in its third year, is a project that uses the Industry Coupled Problem Based Learning (IC-PBL) program, a collaboration between universities, local communities, and companies to solve real-world problems. The main content of the project is for university students to discover community-linked services to promote ESG management activities of 10 professional baseball teams.

Starting with today's business agreement, the 'KBO NINE Season 2024 Beyond Region' will run for four months until September. Starting with a boot camp on July 4, the students will develop their skills through various programs, including club visits, online mentoring, value-up camps, and performance sharing. Building on the results of the past two years, this year's program will include practical curriculum that will allow students to identify problems in close proximity to the region and propose solutions to various areas such as local startups, population expansion, and environmental issues.

The project will involve more than 180 students from 25 universities across the country, including Kookmin University, Gyeonggi National University of Science and Technology, Kyungnam National University, Gyeongsang National University, Gyumyung National University, Daegu Hansa University, Dongguk University, Masan University, Mokwon National University, Mokpo National University, Busan National University, Seogang University, Ajou University, Yonsei University, Yeongnam University, Wonkwang University, Ewha Womans University, Inha University, Chosun University, Chung-Ang University, National Changwon University, Korea Advanced Institute of Technology, National Hanbat University, Hanser University, and Hongik University.

The signing ceremony, which was held via Zoom, was attended by university officials, including the heads of LINC3.0, University Innovation Support, and SCOUT, as well as representatives from the KBO and professional baseball teams. The participants agreed that universities, the KBO, and teams should work together to spread the good results of this year's program across the country.

Kookmin University participated in the KBO NINE Season 2023 last year.

“Through the KBO NINE Season 2024 Beyond Region, we will strive to improve students' self-directed problem-solving skills and promote the ESG management performance of local professional baseball teams,” said Lee In Hyung, head of the LINC 3.0 project at Kookmin University. “In the future, we plan to continue to expand the operation of programs to foster local talents based on discovering local problems and generating local innovation ideas.”
