Kookmin University (President Jeong Seung-Ryul) hosted Chinese Ambassador to Korea Xing Haiming (邢海明) as the speaker of the 618th Kookmin University Thursday Lecture on Thursday, March 21, at the Kookmin University Academic Conference Center. Ambassador Xing Haiming spoke on the topic of "Feeling the China of Today and Protecting the Foundations of Diplomatic Relations."
Before the lecture, President Jeong Seung Ryul said, "As a diplomat since 1986, he has been very interested in the development of human community beyond countries based on the development of Korea and China." "I hope this lecture will expand the knowledge and skills of students as he has taken a valuable step," he said.
Ambassador Xing mentioned automobiles, railways, and online shopping as examples of China's economic development through industrialization and innovation. "The China-Laos Railway, which opened in 2021, has been continuously developing, with over 30 million passengers and over 34 million tons of freight in just two years. This is a reflection of China's community of common destiny thinking that the broader our path, the broader the path for others, and this is the way forward for the international community."
"The increasing number of South Koreans using Chinese products with good cost-effectiveness has the effect of developing the logistics industry in South Korea and creating a large number of jobs, which is mutually beneficial," he said. "We look forward to the continued development of our two countries through a mature economic system."
"Our two countries have a long history together, as evidenced by the active support given by Chinese people from all walks of life to the members of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea when they were committed to independence," said Ambassador Xing Haiming. "We have worked together to create peace beyond political ideology, and I hope that we will continue to share the spirit of mutual trust and mutual benefit."
Over the past 24 years, Kookmin University's Thursday Special Lecture, the first and longest-running weekly lecture program in Korea, has hosted 618 speakers from various fields of politics, society, science, culture and the arts, including the late President Roh Moo-hyun, the late Cardinal Kim Soo-hwan, author Yoo Min-sin, filmmaker Park Chan-wook, National Assembly Speaker Jeong Se-kyun, and U.S. Ambassador to Korea Mark Lippert.
