Local Training Workshop to Strengthen Business IT Education Capacity at Tashkent University of Information and Communications

Kookmin University (President Jeong Seung Ryul), in collaboration with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Uzbekistan Office, announced that it held the 'Capacity building program for Tashkent University of Information Technologies (TUIT) Business IT faculty and staff members' on February 21-27 at Lotte City Hotel Tashkent Palace for a total of five days.

The on-site training, part of the Korea International Cooperation Agency's (KOICA) 'Business IT Education Capacity Building Project for Tashkent University of Information Technologies, Uzbekistan (2022 ~ 2027)', was designed to enhance the capacity of prospective professors of the new Business IT department at TUIT to set their own goals, design and monitor courses, etc.

Dr. Kim Byung-joon, Director of the Institute for Global Development Cooperation (Business General Manager), Dr. Choi Max-heon, Professor of Business Administration (Teaching Method Development Expert), Dr. Kim Hyung-gyun, Professor of Software (Living Lab Operation Expert), Dr. Seo Jun-kyung, Head of Industry-Academia Cooperation Team (Industry-Academia Cooperation Program Expert), and Dr. Mok Jin-heu, Professor Emeritus of Public Administration (Performance Management Expert) participated as experts and lecturers in their respective fields.

The biggest feature of the field training was that Kookmin University emphasized 'participatory' aid projects, and the experts in each field joined hands with local university professors to conduct classes through co-teaching. Co-teaching is a combination of the English words 'cooperation', meaning cooperation, and 'teaching', meaning professor. Half of the class time was spent on lectures by subject matter experts from Kookmin University, and the other half was spent on interactive discussions based on presentations by (prospective) professors and staff from TUIT's Department of Business IT.

In particular, 'Living lab project: Operation plan' by TUIT's Vice President Djamshid Sultanov, 'Requirements for establishing Business IT program at TUIT and Timeline' by Ibrohimbek Yusupov, Director of International Exchange, and 'Startup project: Real-world approach', etc. were presented, which served as an opportunity to refine the localization strategy to ensure the success and sustainability of the Tashkent University of Information and Communication's job-linked business IT education capacity building project.

"A key element of capacity building through local training is the participation of 'change agents,' i.e., local experts who participate in the training," said Professor Max Heon, professor of business administration at Kookmin University. "We expect this training to play an important role in leading the transformation of university education in Uzbekistan by increasing local capabilities and compatibility with the existing system."
