Kookmin University's Biohealth Material Production Process Innovation Talent Development Project (Director: Lee In-hyung, hereinafter referred to as the Biohealth Project) announced that from January 8 to 17, it conducted the 'Biohealth Industry Global Competency Enhancement Program' to visit CES 2024 in Las Vegas, USA, and to visit excellent overseas companies and universities in San Francisco.
The program was supported by the Next Generation Biohealth Innovation Talent Development Project (hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Ministry of Education), and eight students selected through a screening process from among those completing a convergence major in the biohealth industry visited CES2024, the world's largest IT and consumer electronics expo, to understand the latest technological trends in the biohealth field, which is the core technology of the next generation, as well as to improve their global leadership capabilities by visiting excellent overseas companies and universities.
The eight participating students experienced the booths in the biohealth field, and by directly experiencing technologies and ideas, they gained an in-depth understanding of the changes and trends in the field and identified the latest technologies. In particular, the students selected companies of interest among overseas companies participating in CES2024 through a preliminary meeting, and conducted interviews with them on-site and recorded video footage.
The students then traveled to San Francisco, where they toured the laboratories of Stanford University and UC Berkeley University and mentored with researchers working there. They also visited Merck, a global pharmaceutical company, to learn about the company's approach to the latest research and technology development.
Lee Joon-myung (Mechanical Engineering, Kookmin University), who participated in the Global Empowerment Program, said, "The CES Expo was a time to think and plan about the world and what I want to do. I felt it was necessary to think about not only the field I am studying now, but also how to combine my strengths with convergent thinking." He said.
"By experiencing the digital health booths at CES and seeing the latest technologies, I was able to remind myself of the importance of the keyword 'convergence.' I was also impressed by the fact that in UC Berkeley's research labs, there are no researchers who study only one major, but most of them are working in convergence with other disciplines. As a convergence major in the biohealth industry, I decided that I should strive to become a convergent talent with interests in various fields." said.
The BioHealth Division said that it plans to continue to operate global capacity building programs to support various experiences in the biohealth field by participating in international expositions in the bio field as well as CES.
