KMU (President Yim Hong-Jae) has declared a list of 10 ethical principles for freshmen and newly-enrolled students as of the entrance ceremony on Tuesday, Mar.2, 2023, regarding the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in teaching and learning. The following are the 10 principles: As a member of KMU, I solemnly swear that I will do my best to use AI as follows.

① I will understand the basic principles of AI and its latest trends.
② I will not blindly trust or unconditionally reject the use of AI.
③ It is my responsibility to discern information and verify the facts when using AI.
④ I will make an effort to avoid undermining the university’s unique purpose of fostering creative minds.
⑤ I will explore ways to utilize AI as a new learning aid.
⑥ I will try to discover innovative learning methods with the help of AI.
⑦ I understand the need for mutual agreement between professors and students regarding the use of AI.
⑧ I will not blindly use the outcomes of AI without critical thinking.
⑨ I will clarify my use of AI before submitting my assignments.
⑩ I fully understand that my academic competence while using AI will solely depend on the ability to ask creative questions and logical criticism.

With the recent release of ChatGPT, we have entered an era where AI is capable of acting as an academic researcher, going beyond a convenience and learning aid, based on a massive online platform. This paradigm shift has had a significant impact on the duties of universities, which are tasked with providing advanced education.
Regarding this issue, KMU announced the above code of ethics to ensure that the rapid spread of AI does not undermine university education. KMU believes that, in an era where AI is becoming increasingly common, the unique characteristics of humans, such as creative and critical thinking, will become increasingly important.
Reflecting these intentions, the code of ethics embraces the virtues of AI, but also includes a willingness to consider new methods of
education, such as enhancing humanistic literacy. It is KMU’s intent to provide a new form of education where students ask creative questions and find answers on their own
rather than seeking answers in textbooks.
According to President Yim Hong-Jae, “We are preparing various plans that reflect KMU's educational philosophy, represented by community spirit and pragmatism, and go beyond mere words to achieve actual tangible results." He gave specific examples of the plans, mentioning that “we are thinking of opening an exhibition that gives opportunities for professors to share their experiences using AI for lectures and students to share how they use AI for their regular studies, non-curricular activities, and job preparations.”
