Kookmin Bio Receives Commendation from the Minister of Science and ICT of the Republic of Korea

On Jan. 31, Kookmin University (KMU)’s Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation announced that, on Jan. 26, Kookmin Bio, a research institute of KMU, received a
commendation from the Minister of Science and ICT at the 2022 Korea Innovation Cluster Technology Commercialization Award Ceremony.

The ceremony recognized companies and research institutes that achieved excellent results in “contribution to innovation cluster development” and “excellent cases of public technology commercialization.” Kookmin Bio received a commendation in the “contribution to innovation cluster development” category in recognition of its contributions to developing special zones and the
commercialization and vitalization of public technology.

Established in Jan. 2019 with equity participation of Kookmin University Holdings, Kookmin Bio has its headquarters in Jeonju, Jellabuk-do. In July 2020, it established a commercialization center with GMP manufacturing facilities for dried foods in the Iksan Food Cluster Complex.

In Sep. 2020, after acquiring GMP certification, Kookmin Bio secured an R&BD manufacturing platform that links research and development to commercialization. It also promoted R&D for the commercialization and industrialization of bio-health functional materials and food and medicine using agricultural products of Jeonbuk Province. 
As a result, it was selected as a contributor.

In addition, Kookmin Bio focuses on commercialization, having gained approval for an anti-obesity health food for reducing body fat and achieving development technology results in relation to a probiotic food and a drug for preventing and treating inflammatory bowel disease. 

Dr. Sung Moon-hee, CEO of Kookmin Bio, is an honorary professor and former professor of the Department of Bio and Fermentation Convergence Technology, having retired last August. He was also awarded the 47th Jang Young-Sil Award in 2005 and the Science and Technology Medal of Merit in 2020 and researched bio-health foods and drugs for 35 years as a member of the Korean Academy of Science and Technology.
