Kookmin University establishes the Yun-cheol Nam Scholarship

The late Yun-cheol Nam was a teacher at Danwon High School and he sacrificed his life to save his students in the Sewol ferry disaster. In light of his heroic act, the “Yun-cheol Nam Scholarship will be granted to his university juniors. Yun-cheol Nam graduated from the Department of English Language and Literature (Class of 1998) in Kookmin University. After passing the teacher employment test, he taught at Danwon High School in Ansan as an English teacher.

The entrance ceremony was held on February 27th in the presence of 3,831 freshmen. President Ji-soo Yu of Kookmin University said, “We remember the noble sacrifice and true love of the late Yun-cheol Nam through his disciples and I hope that his juniors continue his unfulfilled dreams through the scholarship.”

The scholarship program will start on the first semester in 2015. Full scholarship will be granted to deserving undergraduate students who possess the spirit of service and who lead active lives regardless of their challenging financial situations.
