Opened the Sungkok Global Center in National University of Mongolia

The Sungkok Global Center opened in the National University of Mongolia on August 7, 2014 (Thur.). In the opening ceremony, President Ji-soo Yu, Director Seung-ryeol Jeong of the Office of International Affairs, Professor Gu-cheol Gang from the College of Law, Professor Chung-gu Kim from the College of Law, President Dr. A. Galtbayar and Vice-president Dr. J.Batkhuu of the National University of Mongolia, Dean D. Solongo of the College of Law, and Manager Mendbayar of the International Cooperation Bureau were present. The Sungkok Global Center will serve as a hub for managing the induction of foreign students from Mongolia, cultivation of academic human resource, exchange professors, and affairs related to Mongolia.
Especially, Kookmin University opened a center in other university by assigning a special space in an overseas university for the first time and it is considered to be significant as it provided an outpost or bridgehead for internal exchange.
The keen cooperative relationship between Kookmin University and National University of Mongolia started when the Center for Law-related Education in Korea opened in National University of Mongolia on October 28, 2011 (Fri.) and since the opening of the center, significant synergy has been consistently created between the two universities such as facility investment, various program development, and hosting of international seminars. These accomplishments ultimately resulted in the opening of Sungkok Global Center this time.
Mongolia operates many international exchange programs with Kookmin University and as of April 1, 2014, total of 115 students (14 students for Korean language program, 55 students for undergraduate course, 40 students for master’s course, and 6 students for doctorate course) are studying in Kookmin University. Also, the MOU on academic exchange was concluded with 6 universities in Mongolia. The National University of Mongolia visited this time is one of the major universities in Mongolia and since its establishment in 1940, it has grown with 13,758 students today. Such scale and history are similar to those of Kookmin University.
Through this trip, President Yu was able to look into the current situation of the Center for Law-related Education in Korea located in Mongolia while keenly discussing the measures for international and academic exchange and human resource cultivation programs with Kookmin University through a meeting with the president of the National University of Mongolia.
During this trip, President Yu and Director Seung-ryeol Jeong of the Office of International Affairs met 10 people including President Ho-seon Park of the Chamber of Commerce & Industry in Mongolia (undergrad in ’79 in the Department of Political Science & Diplomacy) and discussed about the development of Kookmin University.
